This Canadian genre entry may have the best special effects of any indie film this year. In a classic set-up that will recall the original NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, the action is mostly set in an enclosed space, and in this case, a remote rural hospital. On a routine patrol, officer Daniel Carter comes across a blood-soaked figure on a deserted roadway. After driving to the local hospital, he discovers that both patients and hospital personnel are transforming into… inhuman creatures. Carter leads a group of untouched survivors into the bowels of the hospital, hoping to overcome what appears to be mankind's worst nightmare.
Shot in Sault Ste Marie, this may be the scariest Canadian movie of 2016. This was a labour of love for directors Steven Kostanski and Jeremy Gillespie, who have collaborated on a number of low-budget films such as MANBORG (previously shown at WFF), FATHER'S DAY and the ABCS OF DEATH 2. They have worked on make-up effects and art direction on such big budget American films as SUICIDE SQUAD and PACIFIC RIM.
